When I moved from my G4 PowerMac MDD to the brand new PowerMac G5 Dual 2GHz in October 2003,
it was a giant leap: the world's first 64-bit Personal Computer, and -by far- the world's
fastest Personal Computer, showing 2 to 3 times the computing power of the fastest PCs money
could buy, using real-life application scenarios. This leap span almost 4 years --
the longest time ever I had a computer in day-to-day use without the demand for "more
power".
In August 2007, after amazing experiences with the new Intel-based
MacBook Pro and the new Mini, however, change was in the air. I upgraded to the new Quad-Core
Mac Pro, paired with a stunning giant 30-inch Cinema display, and now with Apple's new
ultra-thin and ultra-stylish keyboard. Now that's how work is being turned
into pleasure: a wicked fast machine, enormous screen real-estate, and design with style :-)
But it's more than just that. The marvelously designed alloy case is
built for eternity (I really can't imagine how anybody could ever throw this beautiful piece
of engineering away -- ever!), the software-controlled cooling system keeps the machine
so quiet you can barely notice it at all, and MacOS X (meanwhile the world's number one Unix)
is arguably the most intuitive and most advanced operating system you can get for a Personal
Computer (read more).
And if you really have to, this Mac runs Windows XP and Windows Vista natively just fine.
